FOODforHEALTH-SE15

FOODforHEALTH-SE15 supplies cost price organic fruit, vegetables and staples (i.e. bread and rice) to older, housebound and vulnerable people in SE15.  The project is run by Greener Ventures Ltd.

‘Green Ventures’ is a non-profit making, wholesale buying club run by its members.  It was set up in Camberwell in 1996 by a local environmental charity with the aim of supplying local people with a weekly bag of assorted fresh, seasonal, organically grown fruit and vegetables as cheaply as possible, with the option of home delivery by bike and trailer.

With subsidy from Peckham Healthy Living Network, FOODforHEALTH-SE15 supplies the same at cost price.  We work with community support groups, (such as pensioner’s groups, mother and baby groups, etc) to supply their members, but we also welcome individuals to approach us directly.

For an average outlay of £5 per order members can choose from a range of elements to make up the value.  For example Vegetables + fruit + bread = £5, vegetables + rice + pasta =£4.50, etc     We ask for a £4.00 minimum. We are looking for at least one (two if home delivered) of these components being from either of the first two columns.

Criteria for what goes in the bags each week

·        Our staples are potatoes, carrots and onion.

·        We include two leafy, green vegetables for their high mineral content.

·        We vary the bag each week as much as the season will permit.

·        We look for best value – not for expensive rarities or out of season produce.

·        For reduced food miles and increased freshness; we use mainly seasonal UK.

All produce is Soil Association approved organic.  Eggs are also free range.  Bread comes white or wholemeal. Rice likewise.  Packaging is minimal.

The fruit and vegetables selection each week is made by us, but if there are items you never want in your bag we’ll keep a note of them so that we can substitute with more of the other items going into the bag in any given week

The seasons will produce more roots in Winter, more salads and soft fruit in Summer.  ‘Rarities’ aren’t always expensive, so we’ll provide recipe ideas!

Either way, we welcome feedback and also keep a record of favourites.

Delivery or collection:  This happens every Wednesday, collection between 11.00am and 5pm and delivery between 11am and 4pm.  We prefer members to collect their order, either from the Peckham Settlement, or from their organisation* (e.g mother and baby group), but we also offer home delivery to anyone who is housebound or otherwise. The cost of home delivery is £1.

Frequency of order:  Most of our members have a regular order either weekly or alternate weeks and some ring us on an occasional basis.  We can accommodate almost any pattern of order but ask it to be frequent (every one, two or three weeks).  Either way, Orders or changes must be phoned or mailed in by Friday 10 am to avoid disappointment on the Wednesday.

If you have a regular order we can cancel it for any period you wish.

A week’s notice of cancellation is helpful but if you can’t then we must know by the deadline for cancellation of the Wednesday order.

Please note that once we have ordered from our supplier we cannot then make cancellations or additions for late callers.

Members are liable for produce not cancelled or cancelled too late
